| Q: |
what is your recomendation for the cleaning and care of your cutting boards? |
| A: |
Two main things to keep in mind about your cutting boards and butcher blocks -- Keep them away from excess water. Wipe them clean, NEVER soak them in water or put them in a dishwasher. Next, oil them often. Use a food safe oil, we recommend mineral oil, to keep your board in good condition. Use plenty of oil. Wipe it on, let it sit for a few minutes and wipe off any excess. This will keep your board in good shape for many years. If you don't use your board often you still need to keep it oiled. |

| Q: |
Is Timeless Timber kiln dried? |
| A: |
Yes. We have state-of-the-art dry kilns that allow us to condition the wood at any time during the drying process. Our wood is normally dried to 6-8% moisture content. |
|
| Q: |
How did Timeless Timber get underwater? |
| A: |
Prior to railroads, waterways were the primary means of transportation to the sawmills. During transport and while being held in rafts at the mills, a percentage of logs became waterlogged and sank. During this time it was much easier to cut another log than try to recover the "sinkers". Most of the logs that sank were hardwoods due to the fact that they were very heavy to begin with and when the bark absorbed water they would sink. |
|
| Q: |
Do you offer custom dimensional lumber milling? |
| A: |
Since we get the original log direct from the underwater recovery we can custom cut any lumber to meet your specific requirements. In order to meet those specific cutting specifications we need advanced notice. For special sizes or thicknesses specifications need to be known before the log is cut and sent to the kilns for drying and minimum orders may apply. Custom milling on existing kiln dried stock is available. We can process lumber to S2S or S4S. We also have moulding and CNC capacity available. |
|
| Q: |
How can logs that have been underwater for 125 years be any good? |
| A: |
Timeless Timber logs are being raised from northern lakes and rivers where the water is extremely cold with a low oxygen content. The two factors act to preserve these woods in perfect condition. |
|
| Q: |
How can you tell the logs are Virgin Growth timber? |
| A: |
Many of the logs recovered from underwater have the traditional V-cut of logs cut by ax. Many of the logs we bring up have the loggers brand on it. Each logger branded each log they cut down with a distinctive mark so the mill would know who to pay. We have researched log brands from the Lake Superior and other regions and have been able to determine what mill it was scheduled for and the approximate date based on the history of the mill. |
|
| Q: |
How do you process the logs and dry them? |
| A: |
Logs are received at Timeless Timber Inc. then they are sorted, scaled and scanned with a metal detector for nails. They are moved into our plant until ready to cut. We have invested heavily in state-of-the-art steam kilns and proprietary technology to selectively remove the specific amounts of water from each specific species to the correct stabilizing moisture content without damaging the wood. |
|
| Q: |
How much Virgin Hardwoods and Softwoods do you have? |
| A: |
Many states treat the recovery of underwater logs as treasure. Because of this, many local state and federal agencies, environmental groups, tribal councils and any number of private organizations wish to receive their share remuneration for the salvaged woods. Timeless Timber has developed the relationships and secured the licensing rights to much of the underwater logging rights for northern US states and Canada. We have the experience, equipment and facilities to process 12,000 board feet of rough sawn wood per shift. Our 5 steam kiln are rated for 145,000 board feet. |

|
| Q: |
How old are these logs? And how can I tell when I see a piece of finished wood? |
| A: |
Timeless Timber guarantees that the wood purchased from us is from rare old-growth timber that was 250-500 years old when cut and was underwater from 75-150 years before being recovered. Indicative of Virgin Growth woods is the tight ring patterns. When you look at second growth commercially grown timber today, you will notice very few growth rings per inch. Where second growth timber may have 5-8 rings of growth per inch, Virgin Growth Timeless Timber may have 15-30 rings per inch. |
